The bell rang luckily so I was able to run out as they were distracted before they got to me. I ran to class with speed like I was running for my dear life. I took a seat at the back by a corner with my head bowed to my book not making eye contact with anyone, that was how I attended all classes. No one sat beside me or around me almost like it was forbidden, the corner where I sat was strictly forbidden for everyone else.
Just when I thought I had succeeded in getting away from them, Amelia and her friends surrounded my desk.
“Hello,” Amelia said with a big smile
“You thought you could run away?” She asked laughing her heart out
“The bell didn’t save you the teachers are in a meeting” Denice joined in laughing
“It is been a while since we taught you a lesson, didn’t you miss us?” Amelia asked smiling down at me
“There is no escaping us” Adriana laughed
“I didn’t do anything” I whispered
“You don’t have to” they laughed
“I just hate seeing her around your presence irks me” Adrianna spoke shuddering like I made her skin crawl
“Please leave me alone, I don’t want any trouble” I mumbled under my breath and Amelia let out a long hysterical laugh before pushing my head with her finger
“Awwn she doesn’t want any trouble we should stop,” she said and continued pushing my head with her
She took the books I had on the table and tossed them out of the window
“Oops,” she said while they all laughed, then she took someone’s bottle of water and emptied it all over my desk laughing like a maniac as she did. Tears threatened to fall from my eyes but I held on with everything in me. She was having fun and I hated that I couldn’t fight back or do anything I just watched her torment me. I hated myself for that.
The teacher came in, he stared between us but didn’t utter a word and just headed straight to the front of the class, it wasn’t the first time a teacher had turned a blind eye to what was going on.
“Miss Alistair, let’s have our seats please,” the teacher said
“See you later fatty,” Amelia said loud enough for the whole class to hear and they all roared in laughter while the tears gathered in my eyes ran down freely.
After what felt like forever lunch came around, and I sat through classes with no books. I cried for half of it then just stared at teachers as they spoke, I sat still waiting for everyone else to leave before I did.
“Nova!!” I heard someone scream my name and when I turned it was May running into the class with a big smile with Kelsey behind her
Maisie and Kelsey were the only two people I could call my friend, we stuck together like glue after bumping into each other at the principal office when we first arrived. I remember sitting beside May and thinking she was the most gorgeous girl I had ever seen in my entire life. She had these striking green eyes that almost looked unreal like they were glowing under the classroom light. Her hair was short and black, but there were streaks of deep purple running through it that made her look effortlessly cool. She had a piercing on her left brow that only added to her whole mysterious, badass vibe. She looked like the kind of girl who didn’t care what anyone thought. The kind who could walk into a room and own it without even trying.
I never thought she would speak to me because people like her didn’t interact with people like me but she did, asking me if I had an extra pen, and when she saw it was a Pokémon teamed pen, she was so happy and wouldn’t stop gushing about how she loved Pokémon and ever since then we became inseparable.
And Kelsey, she was shy at first and didn’t talk much at that time but we somehow stuck and it has been perfect ever since then.
When the bullying started, I tried to pull away from them, her and Maisie, thinking that if I distanced myself, they wouldn’t get dragged into the mess. I didn’t want them to become targets too. But it didn’t matter how far I ran or how quiet I tried to be. They always found me. Every single time. They never gave up on me.
Maisie was the complete opposite of Kelsey. She was loud, confident, and fiercely protective. She didn’t care who it was or how many people were watching. If she saw something wrong, she stepped in. She always stood up for me, no matter the cost. She didn’t let things slide, especially when it came to how people treated me.
And as much as I loved her for it, truly, I did, I also hated it. Not her, but the feeling that I had to rope her into my mess because I couldn’t stand up for myself.
“Aren’t you going for lunch?” Kelsey asked and I stood up really rushing to meet them, they were one of the things that kept me going
I was so happy to see them that I didn’t see Amelia walking in so I bumped into her yet again, it was almost as if I kept heading for trouble by myself
“Can't you watch it you fucking whale!” she shouted in my face, shame swallowed me instantly as I could feel Maisie and Kelsey both watching me, watching everything
“I am sorry” I apologized immediately before it could escalate
“Too late,” she said next thing. Before I could react she emptied the contents of her cup over my head. The gasp of Kelsey and Maisie filled my ears along with Amelia and her minions' taunting laugh.
I was beyond embarrassed, it was beyond embarrassing to continually get ridiculed in front of my friends no matter how many times it happened.
